The Nebraska
economy is based on cattle and production agriculture, and I will fight
to empower our cattlemen and farmers in the 2007 Farm Bill. The
Farm Bill should protect our rich tradition of the family farm.
Also, the Farm Bill needs to recognize agriculture's role in producing
fuel (ethanol and biodiesel), and ensure a reliable volume of agricultural
product for this noble purpose.
Our trade
policies must open markets for our agricultural products, not just allow
other nations to import their goods into the United States. Those
trade agreements must have specific and enforceable penalties when a
country unfairly refuses our products as Japan did to our beef and Europe
has done to our grain.
