Congressman
Lee Terry believes we owe an enormous gratitude
to those Americans who are serving this nation
in the Armed Services. Because of their sacrifice
and willingness to serve, America is winning the
War on Terror. Our troops will not shrink from
duty, and neither can we.
Congressman Terry is proud of the work done by
all those currently in active service. He is concerned
about military members being separated from their
families for long durations, and the affect lengthy
deployments may have on recruiting.
Congressman Terry has taken a number of specific
actions to improve the military, including:
- In November 2003, Lee Terry joined many House
colleagues in writing President Bush to urge
him to significantly increase the number of
troops on active duty, while revising the missions
given to the National Guard and Reserve.
- Support of the 2004 National Defense Authorization
Act (H.R. 1588) which authorizes $400 billion
for the Department of Defense and national security
programs.
- Voting for a comprehensive measure (H.R. 3289)
to sustain U.S. military forces and rebuild
Iraq and Afghanistan.
- Support for H.R. 3365— the Fallen Patriots
Tax Relief Act—removing taxes on the gratuity
payment made to family members of deceased military
service members.
