Terry leads White in fundraising

House Minority Leader John Boehner made an unheralded appearance at a fundraiser for Republican U.S. Rep. Lee Terry this week in Nebraska, prompting Terry’s Democratic opponent to question the “secret” nature of the visit.
Boehner helped raise “well over $100,000” for Terry at a reception and private dinner, said David Boomer, Terry’s campaign manager.
Boomer said the news media were not notified because Boehner, R-Ohio, did not have time for interviews. His trip into Omaha lasted only a few hours. Boehner then traveled to Des Moines, where he was set to make another appearance.
Democrat Tom White, who is running against Terry, said he believed Terry did not want to be linked to Boehner and the GOP’s policies.
“Boehner raised money for Lee Terry under cover of darkness because, during his decade in Congress, Terry has reliably supported his party leaders in adding trillions to the deficit’’ and trying to privatize Social Security, said Ian Russell, White’s campaign manager.
Boomer disputed that Terry was attempting to distance himself from Boehner, saying Terry has voted against massive spending bills, including the health care overhaul bill.
“We’re delighted to have John Boehner come here and support us. I assume Mr. White would be equally happy to have (Democratic House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi show up for him,” said Boomer.
