OMAHA -- Republican Congressman Lee Terry has turned again to a Democrat to help get him re-elected in November.

Rita Redding Hejkal, an anti-abortion activist in the Omaha area and registered Democrat, has been selected as co-chair of the 2010 campaign. Hejkal joins Richard Carter, the campaign's other co-chair and a former Democrat who in 2008 ran for Terry's seat. Carter was defeated in the Democratic primary by Jim Esch, who went on to lose to Terry in November 2008.

Hejkal said she will work to spread the message that anti-abortion voters "should support Lee Terry for Congress."

Terry said Hejkal "has an incredible network of friends and colleagues ... who care about changing the course our country is now on."

Terry faces Democratic state Sen. Tom White of Omaha in the Nov. 2 election.
