Who’s the real Conservative in the NE2 congressional race?

Last August’s debt limit package contained $900 billion in spending cuts over ten years.  Lee Terry voted for the $900 billion in cuts.  All three of his opponents opposed them.  In other words, Lee’s three opponents are on record as supporting nearly $1 trillion more in spending than Terry.  Who’s the real conservative here?...read more (pdf).

Congressman Lee Terry: A Leader, a Fighter, a Friend: U.S. Rep. Lee Terry is a leader when it comes to the fight over spending. Very simply, the federal government is spending and borrowing too much. To address this, in 2009, 2010, and 2011, Lee voted 157 times on the floor of the House to cut spending. Had the Senate not blocked some of the bigger items, Lee's votes would mean we would be spending $7 trillion less than currently planned over the next ten years...read more (pdf).

Congressman Lee Terry:

A Substantial Record of Accomplishment: Lee Terry has compiled an outstanding record of service and accomplishment for the residents of Nebraska’s second district. Lee gets things done because he works hard, is respected and works well with members regardless of political party. Lee puts people first and serves the residents of the district 24/7. He’s on the job all of the time for all of his constituents...read more (pdf).

SUPPORT FOR THE PRO-LIFE CAUSE: I have always been strongly pro-life and I always will be.  This issue goes to the core of our values as a society—protecting those who cannot protect themselves...read more (pdf).

CONGRESSMAN TERRY VOTES TO CUT TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN FEDERAL SPENDING:

Click here to read a list of votes that Congressman Terry has made since January 2009 to strip spending from bills that were considered on the House floor.  Had the votes prevailed, the nation would be spending trillions of dollars less than the current levels.

GET THE ECONOMY GOING AGAIN: We can create new jobs in one of two ways: incent the private sector to do it, or have government hire people in public sector jobs. The current federal administration advocates the latter approach. I believe this is the wrong track to take and that it will lead us to a stagnant economy with no real growth in private sector job creation and economic activity for years to come. We must change course and direction now...read more (pdf).

BALANCING THE FEDERAL BUDGET: Today, our national debt is $14 trillion, which works out to more than one hundred thousand dollars for each taxpayer.  If the politicians in Washington keep spending more than we take in each year, our children and grandchildren will be saddled with this growing debt.  That just isn’t right.  My proposal is to have a Constitutional Amendment that requires a balanced federal budget.

CUT SPENDING AND BALANCE THE BUDGET: Lee Terry has received an "A" rating from Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom (NTF) for his effective conservative leadership.  Lee has earned the support of conservatives all across Nebraska's Second District...read more (pdf).

ENERGY INDEPENDENCE: I have a plan that can make our nation energy independent. If we make the changes I am outlining here, we can displace almost 14 million barrels a day of imported oil. This is an American solution to our energy needs. I hope our country can unite behind a new energy strategy and then implement it with dispatch. The simple fact is we must move to develop and produce more of our own energy domestically...read more (pdf).

GOVERNMENT REFORMS: Nebraskans are sick and tired of Washington bureaucrats spending their tax dollars in private.  Earmarks when done wrong lead to corruption.  We must have transparency.  The more the public is able to see the earmarks the better Congress will be able to eliminate them.  In regard to entitlements, I've heard from several seniors who are worried about their future.  They are worried about their Social Security and Medicare.  We need to make sure these programs are secure for our seniors, yet modernize the systems so they are efficient.  Finally, on ethics -- just like we clean up the mess in the yard, we need to clean up the mess in Washington.  That's why I introduced the Public Trust and Accountability Act.

EDUCATION: I believe that every child deserves the chance to receive a high quality education.  As the most flourishing country in the world, the United States education system should reflect America's determination and commitment.  Education is the key to America's future.

IMMIGRATION: Illegal immigration is a matter of national security and we must know who is entering our country, thus border security has to be the number one priority in any immigration reform effort.  It cannot be an afterthought.  Along with border security, I have a three-point plan...read more (pdf).

NATIONAL SECURITY & FIGHTING THE WAR ON TERROR: One of my jobs as your Congressman is to fight to keep our country safe. I support anti-terror laws that close loopholes in our intelligence laws and protect Americans' rights. Congress must modernize our intelligence laws that are out of date and hinder our ability to spy on foreign terrorists in a foreign land while protecting American citizens' civil liberties. We must have security, not uncertainty when it comes to terrorists.  Finally, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are a concern for all of us.  I've been to Iraq and I get weekly updates on the progress there and in Afghanistan.  I do believe if we pulled our troops out today it would create chaos in the Middle East.
