Who’s the real Conservative in the NE2 congressional race?
Saturday, January 20th, 2012
- The respected conservative grassroots organization Americans for Prosperity recently released their 2011 ratings of Congress. They gave Lee Terry an “A” for his votes to reduce spending and slim down government. This was the highest rating among the state’s delegation.
- The American Conservative Union gives Lee Terry a 92 percent rating. And, Lee has received another “A” rating, this time from Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom for his record on cutting federal spending.
- In 2009, 2010 and 2011, Lee Terry voted 157 times on the floor of the House to cut spending. Had the Senate not blocked some of the big-ticket items, Lee’s votes would mean we would spend $7 trillion less than currently slated over 10 years. That’s a real record of conservative leadership!
But Lee’s three GOP opponents say they’re more conservative than he is. Really?
Last August’s debt limit package contained $900 billion in spending cuts over ten years. Lee Terry voted for the $900 billion in cuts. All three of his opponents opposed them. In other words, Lee’s three opponents are on record as supporting nearly $1 trillion more in spending than Terry. Who’s the real conservative here?
