TERRY RECEIVES NATIONAL ACCLAIM FOR LEADERSHIP ON EXPEDITING THE NEEDED KEYSTONE PIPELINE
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012
U.S. Rep. Lee Terry has appeared a half dozen times on national FOX News recently to discuss
his proposal to expedite the permitting of the needed Keystone XL Pipeline.
Terry’s proposal was included in end-of-the-year legislation to extend the payroll tax reduction.
The Keystone provision requires the federal government to make a decision on the pipeline
within 60 days in late February.
Terry’s action to include the provision in House legislation weeks ago galvanized the House
majority behind the fact that Keystone is a “shovel ready” project that would create thousands of
new jobs immediately. It will bring needed oil into the country from a valued and trusted ally,
Canada. The project would also pick up oil being drilled in North Dakota and transport it to
refinery production.
Once a permit is issued, Terry’s provision would enable construction to begin immediately
on the pipeline everywhere but Nebraska. Once a new route has been approved in Nebraska,
construction could then follow there. Although a new route within the state is being discussed,
the entrance and exit points of the pipeline’s Nebraska portion have already been set.
Terry told FOX news that the major issue facing the country is a need for jobs. He said
Keystone would provide thousands of new jobs right now and that the federal government could
easily decide on the permit within 60 days.
The law adds to the list of laws sponsored by Terry, a senior member of the House Energy and
Commerce Committee.
